Hey guys,

Here's one of the videos that I showed you guys. It's pretty much done and the text is in the style that imagined, contemplative and perhaps even a little cryptic. The imagery is great and I did some color correcting and vignetting to add to the mood. Critique it and let me know what you think - if you think I should change anything, etc. Travis I hope this can inspire some sounds for you maybe? Anywho. I'm excited! Let me know.

sketches

Hi guys,
So I am thinking- since both of your ideas more closely reference the body than I first thought, my ideas should reflect this more as well. what do you think of these? I would like them to sit right in between representation and abstraction- when I start painting, I will push them further into the ideas of abstracted color fields (as in, the lines wont be as hard- everything will kind of melt and bleed into each other). I am trying to further format and arrange the pieces so that some of them can match up in terms of composition- for example, the spine and rib pattern matching up, or the spiral matching up with some fingerprint patterns. Don't forget to imagine these wall-size...or as large as I can make them. In terms of color, I would like to keep these all in chromatic grays- grays that are just starting to become a certain hue, but not quite. I am afraid of too much representation with these, so let me know what you think- maybe I will just start them off as color fields and go from there.I hope this all makes sense.

Hope your having fun on your trip Josh. Oh, and what do you guys think of Beau's design? I like it!

Hey guys,

Here's some stuff I've been doodling and writing on scraps of paper about the show. Let me know what you think.

Brainstorming Pt. 2

Symmetry vs. Asymmetry - The Perfect Human

two parallel thoughts that gradually move away from each other - phasing rhythms, looping patterns, subtle variations on themes and melodies

asymmetry of the body - the face (does this denote beauty?)
- if your body was perfectly symmetrical in every way would you be the "perfect" human?

-physical (medical) diagrams
-patterning of body parts - two repetitive elements that compliment/juxtapose each other

-casting body parts to install in the gallery

How does the space become symmetrical/asymmetrical - how does each of the elements in the room interact or not interact with each other?

- Only the "perfect human" could stand in a particular spot in the space and hear audio from both rooms to determine their symmetry/asymmetry - or see Lories paintings juxtaposed somehow.

- Kelly Kacsynski - Air is Air and Thing is Thing - "easter egg" - by standing in one particular spot the viewer can see or hear different elements (paintings that line up differently - video & sound line up differently - the videos could play off two separate paintings/walls that are moved apart.

-visual demarcations that position the viewer to "experience the whole show"

-videos and sounds could interact with each other over time or over space.

-play with scale - and space all elements of the show evenly between the four rooms

Materials:
Video projections (we would need to rent dvd players and projectors for this - quiet ones)
Directional cone speakers
Moveable walls - large scale paintings that were double-sided that could be moved around to change the space.

The Second Floor Gallery

Thank you to Travis for the fancy/cool name (was that it?)

Anyway, Travis and I went to go check out the alternative space/gallery/house/whatever it is. It was pretty nice. It is located on the corner of University and NE 9th street...basically right past downtown. The front door opens up to stairs, followed by four mid-sized rooms with a fair amount of wall space. There is another back door connecting to a kitchen which we can keep completely closed and locked. Best of all, there is a large front balcony, which might give our show a good atmosphere for people to hang out outside etc. I am not sure of how I feel about the space yet, but here are some pictures. What do you guys think?

Travis' past work

I just put together a basic webpage with some of my past work.  Any comments are welcome.
